In Greene County district court on Aug. 24 Jesus Moises Zuniga Jr, 19, of Jefferson was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of conspiracy to deliver marijuana. He was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge and a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE). The judge ruled he in unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney. A charge of obstructing prosecution was dismissed.
In a separate case, Zuniga was sentenced to five years in prison on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. The prison term is consecutive to the charge in the above case. He was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $125 LEI surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. The judge ruled he in unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney. Court costs were $160.46.
Zuniga’s probation was revoked in three other criminal cases: burglary- third degree and carrying weapons; burglary; and burglary- third degree. Zuniga could serve up to 13 years in prison. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Dean Paul Hearn, 65, of Otho was sentenced Aug. 23 to two years in prison after he placed guilty to a charge of criminal mischief- aggravated misdemeanor, amended from criminal mischief- second degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. Hearn was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge and a $125 LEI surcharge. Whitney Jean Campbell Perez, 20, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana, amended from possession of methamphetamine. She was placed on informal probation for one year and must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She must pay a $315 civil penalty and a $125 LEI surcharge. Court costs were $104.90. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Parker Louis Stoneburner, 19, of Ogden was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a chare of possession of marijuana. The jail time was suspended and he was placed on unsupervised probation for a term not disclosed. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Stoneburner was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge, a $125 LEI surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. He must pay $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $136. Brodrick James Greer, 20, of Ankeny was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. He must pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the time he serves. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College drinking driver 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already had done, and he must complete a community college drinking driver’s school. He will be on informal probation for one year. Greer was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Jeng Vang, 36, of Denison was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while license revoked. Persons pleaded not guilty as follows: Daniel Joseph Brownfield, 38, of Ogden, burglary- third degree (motor vehicle)and theft- third degree; Jeremy Joe Orfield,26, of Grand Junction, sex abuse- second degree and lascivious acts with a child- solicitation; and Jeremy Lee Benedict, 28, of Perry, possession of methamphetamine. A trial date was set for Orfield for Sept. 25. Trial dates were set for Brownfield and Benedict for Oct. 30.
Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Hanna Kristine Meinecke, 31, of Lakewood, CO, has been charged with possession of marijuana. The warrant was issued Feb. 4 and returned Aug. 23.
